General Description
Plans, directs and coordinates the activities of employees engaged in the manufacturing operations and working with Engineering departments. Schedules, plans and oversees all functions in areas of responsibility. Trains employees in job duties. Verifies that processes are completed according to the procedure to ensure package integrity
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Schedules starting and completion operations to preclude production delays and to efficiently utilize available manpower. Understands the importance of meeting customer requirements. Able to identify and sequence tasks to meet department objectives, anticipate problems and re-prioritize events to meet commitments.
- Coordinates production activities with supply chain, engineering, quality control to obtain optimum production uptime.
- Ensures adherence to standard production procedures and accepted techniques in all activities and operations. May deviate from standard procedure in the event of an emergency, abnormality or equipment failure in consultation with the Chief Operations Officer.
- Makes job assignments for personnel. Trains and evaluates subordinates. Reports excess or shortage of personnel and suggests procedural or method changes to effectively utilize personnel.
- Makes recommendations to improve yields and reduce waste, labor, material, maintenance, handling and other costs. Consults with Quality Assurance in the investigation of existing processes, in attempting trial runs and in experimental work, etc. to reduce cost and/or increase efficiencies.
- Provides required documentation regarding production records, assembly information, packaging component usage, maintenance, personnel and shift activity.
- Equitably and consistently administers, interprets and communicates company policies and procedures to maintain good morale.
- Develops and maintains strong relationships with subordinates. Understands people, manages day to day issues, identifies skill gaps and development needs. Able to teach/transfer knowledge to others. Able to interface with all levels of management effectively to accomplish departmental goals.
- Capable of analytical thinking, using data to make sound business decisions and implement solutions. Capable of utilizing systems and technology.
- Strong leadership skills, capable of creating a vision for the team, driving toward short and long-term individual and team goals.
- Regularly lifts and carries boxes and bundles of packaging up components up to 50 lbs. to set up and purge production lines.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Education and Experience Qualifications
- BS Degree and 7-year experience in lean manufacturing preferred
- Commercial mindset and strong communication skills.
- Ability to respond to emergencies should they occur in the production process.
- Excellent listening and communication skills required
- Demonstrate and create best practices documentation for print prep, optimal printing, post-processing and printer integration, and automatization
Travel
This position requires 10% travel.
